Advantages of Robotic Process Automation

Higher Throughput – RPA runs a process faster than a human can. It does so repeatedly, without any breaks, until the job is completed. With several virtual instances running simultaneously, the throughput is improved exponentially. RPA Bots can work 24/7 with the same amount of efficiency at no additional cost. For a customer-facing process that involves multiple steps, such as credit checks, this can make a real difference in customer experience.

Cost Savings – While automation inherently brings in cost savings, RPA takes it a step further. Since RPA is built on top of the existing IT Infrastructure, its implementation is much faster and cost-effective. Additionally, with RPA, the processes run on virtual terminals eliminating the need for physical terminals. That’s a considerable saving in terms of machine (computer terminal) acquisition, operation and maintenance, and disposal cost. (Not to forget that having lesser computer terminals is environment-friendly!). All this is over and above the wage cost that is saved by using RPA.

Non-Invasive – RPA is built on top of the existing software and improved business process. It does not need to ‘integrate’ with business software to execute its tasks. There are no APIs, database integration, XMLs, or any other data interchange happening (unless needed for a very specific requirement) which could compromise the security of the business software or tool. Since it does not poke any holes in the software to work with it, it helps retain the safety of the business software.

Quality – By limiting human interaction, errors caused by carelessness, fatigue, tiredness, etc. are reduced. The data entry fiascos due to human errors are virtually non-existent. (No more heavy head because of last night’s party you see!). RPA can also be designed to follow rules, and it follows them diligently without making mistakes, which further improves the quality of data. This improved quality flows across the business, creating a butterfly effect and enhances business process outcomes.

Security – Automated data processing (entry or otherwise) means human contact with data is minimalistic. Since lesser people (if any at all) need to access it, the security and safety of data increase multifold. The data does not need to cross borders and can stay local. Thus, in a way, RPA aids the protection of sensitive data and helps in meeting compliance needs. Though RPA does need credentials to log onto the software, these are stored in a separate secure location.

Insights and Analytics – RPA allows for larger volumes and a wider variety of data to be collected at a much lower cost as compared to manual human entry. It provides an excellent platform for productive data analysis. With improved data quantity, quality and variety, better analytics can be performed to deliver accurate, meaningful, and profitable insights to businesses.
